watch me be a year late in all fandoms. anyway, i didn't read american comics until 4 months ago, and it was only 2 months ago that i figured out who apollo and the midnighter were. Strangely enough, it was from one of my former art teachers that still keep contact with. Knowing he was a comic buff, i asked him who the white haired superhero was, and he went into this long rant about Apollo and The Midnighter, finishing off with the only sentence which would have gotten me interested. "Oh yeah, they are gay you know." That pretty much sealed the deal. Its also surprising how there is an enormous lack of Authority fanfiction out there, but yours are by far the best, from what backlog i've been reading on lj. now, i will be off trying to be patient about the next issue of dreamwars (i need to see some superman/batman/apollo/midnighter tension!)

Oh, god damnit, you make me cry with these, even if it takes me far too long to get to them.

There was really so much to love about this--Apollo with black hair, for starters, an image that's weird and beautiful at the same time--the gut-ripping anguish Midnighter feels when he vanishes, the shy and hot and playful interplay between the two in the past. This pairing satisfies me deeply in a way the Clark/Bruce can't, because Apollo and Midnighter really can save each other from the abyss. Superman and Batman have to be heroes with or without each other or it tilts toward out of character (I play with it but can't indulge the theme fully); these two can truly be the thing that saves them from becoming monsters, and it's so beautiful to see the ways you play it out.
The whole conversation between the two at the end was gorgeous in the extreme, but this line totally broke me:
He hesitated; not because the answer was hard, but rather because it was so infinitely obvious. “It didn’t occur to me. I know who you are.”
Because I had been wondering the same thing and his answer is so perfect and perfectly beautiful.snake_easing (29th August, 2007 @ 5:02 pm)
I like it! Sweet and beautiful, and I liked the interactions between young!Apollo and his future husband.

I have a pretty good feeling that this was hardly the worse time travel fic in the fandom, but then again, I've only read your fics for Authority, so I can't really say much.

Same praise as always for your characterization of Midnighter. In short - Love. I'd hate to bore you with the same old fangirling of mine.
Though I will say that my favorite part is Apollo scolding Midnighter for not asking about his past name and how it never occurred to Midnighter that it was something that needed to be known. It's such a perfect concept of their relationship, that the past is unknown and only the present really matters.
Anywho, thanks for sharing. It was a welcomed relief after reading the last Harry Potter book.

Thanks; as usual you are too kind.
Technically it is the worst fic too, since AFAIK it's the only fic.
Heh, to be truthful the whole "not asking for a name" thing was pretty much just a hack to avoid, well, having to give Apollo a non-canonical name. Ironically, I was going to write a companion piece to this called "Dog Summer" in which Apollo essentially gets it into his head to return the favour... and then Midnighter #10 came out and I now feel, like, obliged to wait because apparently Midnighter has a name and a history and stuff now and bleh, 'sif. >:Oerin (17th August, 2007 @ 4:15 pm)

I don't care what you say, this was a fantastic fic, and I loved it! There is nothing better to me than Apollo & Midnighter when they are written correctly, and you, my friend, have got their canon all kinds of figured out.
Well done!Jess (12th August, 2007 @ 9:57 am)
This was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed, and the title (as someone else said) sells it ridiculously short!

This is a brilliant fic. I love it. I liked the whole time travel thing even though it's overdone and cliché. It works in this fandom and your fic. This is the worst review in your comments, I'm afraid.
