Thank you. I spend this evening grinning and awwing over this story which is both cute. I liked Susan's voice and the way you portrayed Midnighter, being both very scary as he should be and a very loving father. And I immensely enjoyed the way you write Jenny: I think it's hard to catch how children really are in a story and you managed it so well, while there still is the feeling of how special Jenny is.
Just thank you!Jen in Japan (18th August, 2007 @ 5:24 am)
This was just delightful! I loved Susan's voice here--I'm a sucker for stories told from the POV of a "normal" person having to deal with superheroes, and her mix of sheer terror and honest liking for Midnighter is perfectly intelligible. The conversation in the middle fo the fight between Apollo and Midnighter was so perfect--the mundane touches in the middle of horror and gore seem so *right* for the Authority, somehow. The line about "decapitation by paper cut" especially stayed with me and made me giggle for quite a while.

Heh, I have to admit the "bystander" story is a favourite of mine, too (on that note; I loved your Junior interlude to MotS incidentally).
I remember reading somewhere once that the whole point of the original Stormwatch was to show a world where being a superhero was just a normal job. No futzing about with secret identities or whatever; just people with powers getting the kinds of jobs people with powers would logically go get in the Really Real World. I like that (I've never been a great fan of the 'caped vigilante' shtick), and I think that's where the character of Susan comes from and the reason she connects to Midnighter, despite the tacit implication that she doesn't approve of the Authority per se; she connects to Midnighter-the-working-dad.
Unfortunately I think this angle has been getting written out of the Authority for a long time, now (especially with Ennis' run on Midnighter). Such a shame. :\Windress (15th August, 2007 @ 11:19 pm)
ahh, so enjoyable! There's something very satisfying about seeing and contemplating our favorite heroes participating in the "mundane" activities of a regular day. Especially when its characters that can so easily be misunderstood or "flattened" to a two-dimensional interpretation. I think you did an exceptional job playing out the unique relationship of Midnighter and Jenny, something that is both father-daughter and a friendship of almost-peers, and yet is also something more. Very fun to read, definitely one of my favorites

*laughs* this was great. I love the picture of Midnigher in his sweats with a cup of coffe and vanity fair. Priceless. You write very well. The tone is wonderful and the characters are spot on. Just brilliant.
